Bhubaneswar, Nov 13:
X’pressions is an annual Management Cultural fest organized and managed entirely by the students of Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneshwar. It is spread over three days and has a plethora of events catering to a diverse crowd. This year, the fest is scheduled on November 13th, 14th and 15th and the preparations are in full swing. There are business simulation games as well as cultural activities to keep everyone busy and entertained.
One of the events in this three-day fest is a street play competition called AAGHAZ. Street Plays (also called Nukkad Natak) are widely used media for contemporary artists to convey a social message using short, meaningful skits to the audience and society. The Cultural Committee of XIMB, X-Stage, has adopted this method to challenge the growing indifference in today’s youth towards issues that really matter. This year, the theme for the competition is ‘Lead the Change’. Teams from various colleges will present their play on one of the three sub-themes—‘Drug Abuse and its Effect on a Family’, ‘Women Empowerment’, and ‘Reservation and Quota System’.
As a precursor to Aaghaz, an XIMB team performed a special Nukkad Natak on the Xavier University, Bhubaneswar campus on 15th August 2015. On the World Humanitarian Day (August 19th) it performed another street play on women empowerment in front of ‘The World’, one of the prominent malls in Bhubaneswar.
The team has found street plays to be effective in creating awareness and emphasizing the need for change. They believe that if they can get their message across to even one person, it could cause ripples and effect change for a better tomorrow. As future managers, they recognize the need for a paradigm shift in the attitude of the new generation and can visualize their efforts making an impact on the society in the long run.
