Aahaar meal in exchange for plastic in Odisha capital from today

Bhubaneswar: With an aim of reducing plastic pollution in Odisha capital, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) today launched an innovative programme under which any person can avail a meal at 11 Aahaar centres in the city in exchange for 500 grams of plastic.

The programme kick started at an Aahaar centre located near Kalpana Square where BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary made a citizen inaugurate it.

This initiative is being carried out by the BMC in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Touch Stone Foundation. “The citizen-centric initiative is a strategy to facilitate collection of household plastic from the city,” the BMC commissioner said.

Aahaar centres will allow exchange of only only one kg plastic per person per day and issue two coupons for the same on the day.
