Abandoned newborn girl rescued from culvert in Odisha’s Jeypore

Jeypore: An abandoned newborn girl was rescued by locals near a culvert in Kebidi panchayat area here in Odisha’s Koraput district this morning.

The baby has been admitted to the Rabanaguda Community Health Centre (CHC) in critical condition.

According to reports, the newborn was found lying abandoned under a culvert at around 6.30 am. The locals rescued the baby and taken her to the hospital for treatment.

The health condition is stated to be critical. She has been kept in ICU.

After getting information, the Boriguma police reached the site to probe into the incident.

“The infant was lying on the ground with clay all around her body. Everyone was just watching the scene but did not come forward to rescue her. I lifted the baby from the ground and wiped out the clay from her body with warm water. Later, I took her to the hospital,” said Mukta Mani Parija, an elderly woman, who rescued the baby.

When asked about information on the baby’s mother, she denied saying, “How can I know who abandoned the baby. How can I leave a human child in such a condition? I picked her with care and handed over to the hospital.”

“The baby was received with the mild hypothermia. However, the condition is normal. We have kept the baby in warmer,” said Dr. Soumya Ranjan

However, there is no information about the infant’s parents and family. An unknown lady rescued the baby and brought here. The baby was born six hours ago, he added.
