Abhijit Iyer gets bail, to appear before Odisha police by Sept 28

Bhubaneswar: Journalist Abhijit Iyer Mitra, who faced huge criticism for making derogatory comments on the Sun Temple Konark and Odisha culture, was granted bail soon after his arrest by Delhi police today.

The Saket Court in Delhi granted him conditional bail till September 28 and directed him to appear before the Marine Police Station at Konark by the date.

Meanwhile, another case was lodged at Sahid Nagar police station against Abhijit Iyer over anti-Odisha statements.

The arrest of Iyer was initiated following uproar in the House by both the ruling and opposition parties over derogatory remarks on Konark Sun Temple and Odisha culture.

Earlier on Wednesday, a case was lodged by one complainant identified as Bimbadhar Beura against him with the Marine police station for hurting sentiments of Odisha people.

Meanwhile, Odisha government today formed a six-member House Committee headed by Leader of Opposition (LoP) Narasingha Mishra for probe into anti-Odisha statements by the journalist.

Abhijit drew flak from all quarters of leaders cutting across the party line after he posted a video on social media making derogatory remarks on the Sun Temple and a series of tweets insulting Odisha people and their culture.
