Bhubaneswar, Sept 4:

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Wednesday staged a demonstration here protesting against the deteriorating higher education system in the State.

Over 5,000 students from colleges across the State, under the banner of ABVP, participated in the protest. They submitted a memorandum of demands in this regard to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

The demands include immediate provision of GIA, abolition of inequalities in the salary structures of teachers and the Block Grant system, steps for filling up vacant posts of permanent teachers, monthly provision of scholarships to SC, ST and Other Backward Class students and appointment of only prominent educationalists as vice-chancellor in universities.

In addition to these, ABVP members also demanded solution to the problem of delay in result declaration and gross errors in managing examinations along with reallocation of engineering seats as necessary in consultation with the All India Council for Technical Education.

The agitation would be intensified if the Government did not find a solution to the issues soon, warned ABVP State secretary Hitesh Kumar Sahoo.
