Acclaimed Ukrainian actor Oksana Shvets killed in Russian rocket shelling

New Delhi: Well-known Ukrainian actor Oksana Shvets was killed during rocket attack by Russian forces on a residential building in Kyiv.

The Young Theater, where the actor was part of the troupe, confirmed demise of Oksana in a statement today.

“During the rocket shelling of a residential building in Kyiv, a well-deserved artist of Ukraine Oksana Shvets was killed”, the statement read.

Oksana was reportedly 67. She had been awarded one of Ukraine’s highest honours, the title of which roughly translates as “Honoured Artist of Ukraine”. The honour was bestowed upon her for her powerful performances in theatre and film for decades.

Born on February 10, 1955, Oksana graduated from the theatre studio at the Ivan Franko Theatre and the Kiev State Institute of Theatre Arts.

Besides the Young Theater, the actor had also worked at the Ternopil Music and Drama Theater and the Kiev Theater of Satire.
