Accused nabbed in minor boy neck slashing case

Twin City Commissionerate Police has been successful in nabbing the prime accused in the blood-chilling minor boy neck slashing case that took place in the Odisha capital on Thursday.

Police nabbed Bikash Behera (name changed to conceal identity) from Vani Vihar slum area late on Thursday night, reports said. Currently, he is being taken to Kharavel Nagar police station for interrogation, reports added.

The bloody incident took place Thursday morning at Durga Mandap Basti in Satya Nagar under Kharavel Nagar police limits in the city.

The Bikash allegedly slit the five-year-old boy’s neck with a sharp weapon and fled the spot.

The attacker is a plus two (science) student of a private college in Nayapally area, reports said.

He is the neighbour of the victim and attacked the boy while he was playing.

“I saw him brandishing a knife. He has done it along. He would have brought it from his home. He is a drug abuser,” a neighbour had said on Thursday.

Residents of the basti had rushed to the local police station and lodged a complaint.

The critically injured minor was first rushed to the Capital Hospital here Thursday for treatment and later shifted to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Paediatrics (Sishu Bhawan) in Cuttack.
