Adikabi Sarala Puraskar for Odisha litterateur Pravakar Swain

Eminent litterateur Prof Pravakar Swain was conferred with the Adikabi Sarala Puraskar on Saturday for his profound contribution to Salara literature and its wide publicity.

Prof Pravkar SwainThe award was conferred at the 44th annual day of Sarala Sanskrutika Parishad at Rourkela.

The function, presided over by Debendra Narayan Pati, was attended by Prof Pramila Panda as the chief guest and Chandrasekhar Hota as the guest of honour.

Swain, while studying at the Regional Engineering College, now known as National Institute of Technology (NIT), had started his literary pursuit by setting up the Parishad.

En engineer by profession, Swain made remarkable contributions in the field of literature and culture. Born on July 26, 1952 in a farmer’s family at Lankapara village of Tirtol Block in Jagatsinghpur district, he had participated in 41 state level, national and international seminars and workshops. He had presented a paper on Contemporary Odia writings in SAARC Writers, Conference held in Kolkata organised by Indian Writers Association in April, 1988, international seminar on Mahabharat organised by Indian Institute of Advance Studies at Shimla, seminar on Mahabharat organised by Sahitya Akademi at New Delhi, seminar on Mahabharat organised by Viswabharati University, Santiniketan and many other seminars organised by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, Odisha Sahitya Akademi, Bhubaneswar, Universities of Odisha, Different colleges of Odisha in collaboration with University Grants Commission (UGC) etc.

He had also participated in literary discussions of Doordarshan, Bhubaneswar and All India Radio.

He was the founder of Sarala Samman, a literary award and Kalinga Ratna Award, a citizen award.
