After failing in OTET exam, woman teacher ends life in Odisha

Berhampur: A woman teacher in Odisha took extreme step reportedly after failing in Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET) exam for fourth time.

The incident occurred at Khallikote area in Odisha’s Ganjam district where teacher Annapurna Sahoo of Golamathura Project Upper Primary School committed suicide after OTET exam 2019 results were declared by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) on Thursday.

According to reports, Annapurna, a resident of Rajsunakhela area of Nayagarh district, had been working as the teacher at Project UP School, Golamathura, in a past few years. She had visited her native place on Wednesday. After returning from village, she had been to school next day.  She took rest at her rented house on Thursday night.

However, it was the last night in her life as she did not wake up next morning. As her door was closed till 9.00 am on Friday, a neighbour suspected something wrong with the teacher. When she looked through the window, found the teacher lying on the floor and bubbles were coming out of her mouth.

She immediately informed her family about the incident.

The deceased teacher’s mother said that Annapurna had failed thrice in OTET exam earlier. After the results were declared on Thursday, she was upset as she once again failed to clear the exam.

Annapurna was suspected to have ended her life by consuming poison over continuous failure in exam.

However, no allegation has been made by her in-laws
