Hours after Odisha Congress called for a day-long Malkangiri bandh tomorrow to protest against Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s tour of the district scheduled for the same day, Biju Janata Dal today warned Congress of “consequences”.

“The Chief Minister will go to Malkangiri on an official programme. Opposing this tour is opposing democracy. Besides, Congress leaders will visit many places in the coming days. They should be prepared to face the consequences and should not complain if BJD supporters retaliate,” said BJD Spokesperson Pratap Deb.

Earlier in the day, Odisha Congress Vice President Pradeep Majhi announced that his party will observe a bandh in the district to protest against the Chief Minister’s inaction in Japanese Encephalitis deaths.

“As declared earlier, Congress will oppose Chief Minister’s Malkangiri tour tomorrow and observe a Malkangiri bandh. He has undermined the residents of the district. Where was he, when the children were dying of Japanese Encephalitis? He wants to come here to seek votes before panchayat polls. We won’t allow that,” Majhi had said announcing the bandh.

According to reports, BJP has also called for Malkangiri bandh tomorrow over the issue.

Patnaik, in his day-long tour, will dedicate several welfare programmes in the district and review the measures taken to address the Japanese Encephalitis situation there.
