Ailing Odisha actor Papu Pom Pom shifted to AIIMS-Delhi

Bhubaneswar: Popular Ollywood comedian Tatwa Prakash Satapathy, better known as Papu Pom Pom, who is suffering from pancreatic disease was shifted to All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. His condition is stated to be critical, a source close to him said.

The actor was taken to the AIIMS in an air ambulance from the Biju Patnaik International Airport here this afternoon.  Several people related to the film fraternity were present at the airport to enquire about the actor’s health condition.

Papu was undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a private hospital here since May 11.

Actors, filmamkers and fans of the popular comedian expressed shock and prayed for the speedy recovery soon after the news broke.

Meanwhile, Odia Cine Artists’ Association donated Rs 5 lakh to the ailing actor’s family for his treatment at the premier medical facility.

“Though his (Papu) condition is not critical as of now but it can’t be taken lightly as well. He has been shifted to AIIMS as there are better facilities and doctors available which is required for his treatment,” said Kuna Tripathy, Secretary of the association and had worked with the comedianin several films.

“I request all to pray before Lord Jagannath for his speedy recovery so that he will be back soon to make us laugh,” added Tripathy who was recently appointed as Chairman of Odisha Film Development Corporation.

The State governmnet too expressed concern as Health Minister Pratap Jena has reportedly taken stock of his condition and held discussions with AIIMS doctors to ensure better treatment for the actor.

Notably, Papu fell ill while shooting for the upcoming Odia movie ‘4 Idiots’ in Thailand, following which the shooting was cancelled and he was rushed to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar where the doctors diagnosed him with acute pancreatitis.
