Ajay Barik, the BJD corporator elected from Ward No. 36 in Cuttack, was elected deputy mayor of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Saturday afternoon easily defeating his challenger Hrushikesh Pradhan, the independent corporator from Ward No 52.

While Barik got 45 votes in the 59-member CMC, Pradhan could muster no more than 13. An independent corporator did not take part in the election today.

Baripada Deputy Mayor election

In Baripada, Jitendra Mohanty, the BJD councillor from Ward No 5, was elected unopposed as the deputy chairperson of the Baripada municipality.

BJD had won 21 out of the 28 wards in Baripada.

Barik said he would work for solving the civic problems in the Millennium City, including the perennial problem of drainage.
