Alert Gateman averts major train mishap in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The presence of mind of an alert railway employee today averted a possible major train mishap at Balugaon Level Crossing on the outskirts of Odisha capital.

The Gateman of Balugaon Level Crossing (under East Coast Railway), B. K. Sethi, spotted problem in a specific wagon of a goods train carrying dolomite from Biramitrapur (near Rourkela) to Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and alerted its driver who immediately stopped the train at around 11.55 am, a railway official said.

Following this, all wheels of the wagon got derailed and blocked the UP line. There is no injury or casualty to anybody due to the derailment, the official informed.

Accident Relief Train with manpower from Khurda Road rushed to the spot for restoration work.

The ECoR has decided to felicitate the three alerted staff – Driver of the Goods train S.N. Patnaik, Co-Loco-Pilot S.K. Sahoo and Sethi for showing their promptness and alertness in averting the accident, at its headquarters tomorrow, the official added.

The Down line is, however, clear for train movements.

In view of re-railment and restoration work, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has cancelled, partially cancelled some of the trains.

These include: 58419 Bhubaneswar-Palasa passenger from Bhubaneswar on 30.01.2018 will remain cancelled.

58420 Palasa-Bhubaneswar passenger from Palasa on 31.01.2018 will remain cancelled.

58433 Cuttack-Brahmpur Passenger from Cuttack on 30.01.2018 will run upto Khurda Road and will remain cancelled from Khurda Road to Brahmpur.

58411/58412 Bhubaneswar-Brahmpur-Bhubaneswar Passenger will remain cancelled on 31.01.2018 from both the directions.
