All banks in Odisha to remain shut for 11 days in March? latest updates here

Bhubaneswar:  The  nationwide bank strike that was scheduled for three days from March 11 to March 13 has been postponed for indefinite period. With this, the number of bank holidays for the month of March came down to eight.

The 2020 March calendar has slated eight holidays for banks in Odisha, including the second Saturday, Holi and Sundays. However, the number of holidays later rose to 11 as bank employees declared a three days nation-wide strike next month. They were supposed to stage the protest from March 11 to March 13 to press for their demand for a 25% salary hike.

However, as per latest information, the strike has been cancelled for indefinite period.  United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) convenor Sambit Mishra said the strike scheduled from March 11 to March 13 has been postponed indefinitely as the demand is under consideration way with the IBA.

Generally, the revision of salaries of bank employees is done every five years. Apparently, last time their increment was delayed from 2012 to 2015. Although the IBA has formed a committee to resolve the issue and consider the demands of the employees, it gave consent to 12.5%  hike in the salary structures triggering  discontentment among the employees nationwide.
