Bhubaneswar: All the villages in Odisha would be electrified by June next year under the rural electrification programme.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today directed the officials to expedite the process to supply electricity to all the villages under the programme.
As per official sources, the government aims to provide power connectivity to unelectrified villages by December end this year and partially electrified villages by June next year.
Notably, there are 47, 677 villages in the state of which 46, 926 hamlets have been electrified. The remaining 750 villages will be electrified by December end. Similarly, there are 28, 165 villages which have been partially electrified. Of them, 6856 villages have been electrified and the rest 20, 309 villages will get connectivity by June end next year.
Worth mentioning, the agencies like NTPC, PGCIL, OPTCL and OREDA have been roped in for rural electrification work.
Energy Minister Prafulla Mallick, Development Commissioner R Balakrishnan, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Rajesh Verma, Energy Secretary Hemant Sharma and other senior officials were present in the review meeting.
The state government had targeted to complete the electrification work by October-November last year after a review meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi. It remains to be seen whether the state government would be able to achieve the revised target this time.
