Ama Doli’ programme to be launched in Odisha’s Rayagada district

In order to facilitate smooth transportation of the patients and pregnant women living in the remote and inaccessible areas in the tribal-dominated Rayagada district, the district administration has decided to launch “Ama Doli” programme for the first time in Odisha.

“The objective of the programme is to bring the patients and the pregnant women from the remote areas of the district on a Doli (stretcher), which is specially designed for the purpose, to the main road from where they would be carried by the ambulance vans to the nearby hospitals”, said Dr Anand Kumar Padhi, chief district medical officer (CDMO) to OST.

The cost of each Doli is around Rs 10,000.

According to district collector Sashibhusan Padhi, it has been decided to provide the Doli to 183 inaccessible villages while the maintenance of the Doli would be entrusted either to the Village Welfare Committee or the ward member, Anganwadi worker and health worker.

He said the cost of the programme would be around Rs 18 lakh which would be spent from the Integrated Action Plan (IAP) project.
