Ambulance failure: Woman delivers baby near hospital gate in Odisha

Bhanjanagar: A woman of Ganjam district in Odisha today delivered a baby near the gate of Bhanjanagar hospital due to unavailability of ambulance to carry her to another hospital.

According to reports, Basumati Naik of Asanapalli village under Jilundi panchayat complained of labour pain following which she was rushed to Bhanjanagar hospital by her kin.

Doctors at the hospital referred her to MKCG Medical College & Hospital in Berhampur.

Her family members made repeated calls for an ambulance to carry her to MKCG Hospital but in vain as it didn’t turn up.

Waiting for ambulance, Basumati delivered a baby near the hospital gate.

The condition of the newborn and the woman is stated to be stable. Both are undergoing treatment at Bhanjanagar hospital.
