Cuttack, Aug 5:
The Odisha High Court has allowed two weeks’ time to the state government to file its reply to multiple cases challenging the amendments made to the Land Registration Act.
Hearing the matter on Monday, a High Court bench comprising acting Chief Justice Pradip Mohanty and Justice Biswajit Mohanty allowed two weeks’ time to the Odisha government to file its reply.
According to the proceedings of the case, the Odisha government had recently made some amendments to the Odisha Registration Act 1908. As per sub section 22-A of the amended 2013 Act, if a land owner fails to present the patta of the land he/she intends to sell; registration officers are directed not to register the sale.
Those challenging the amendments have apprehended that the amendment was in contravention of the original Act and would cause serious problems in the sale-purchase of land.
