‘Amogh’ boost for security off Odisha coast

In order to strengthen security in the eastern coast of the country, Indian Coast Guard today inducted high speed patrolling ship Amogh into its fleet of patrolling ships stationed off Paradip coast in Odisha.

With the induction of Amogh, the number of patrolling ships under the command of the Indian Coast Guard has now risen to six.

In comparison to the other ships in the fleet, Amogh has ultra-modern facilities in it and can travel at a speed of 63 km per hour.

The other important features of this ship are: it has a sophisticated gun mounted on it and has two boats out of which one is a power boat.

Furthermore, the ship has Global Positioning System (GPS) and ultra-modern radar on it to keep an eye on terrorists trying to enter Indian territory through the sea route from the eastern side.

Apart from protecting the country’s borders and defence activities, the ship will be useful at times of natural calamities and in accidents, Coast Guard sources said.
