‘…And our time starts now’: Odisha CM sets deadline for improving governance

Bhubaneswar: Hours after taking oath as the Chief Minister of Odisha for a fifth consecutive term, Naveen Patnaik has called upon the ministers to work hard every minute to honour the faith of people with dedication, determination and devotion to fulfill the promises they made before the polls.

Chairing the first Cabinet meeting at state Secretariat here this evening, Patnaik has urged to add another T (Time) to his earlier suggested formula of four Ts (Teamwork, Transparency, Technology and Transformation) to his ministerial colleagues to further improve the state of governance.

Laying emphasis of timely execution of projects, he said: “Time is of critical essence. The youth of today are in a hurry.”

Citing achievements of his government earlier, the CM said: “If we could get international recognition in Fani – it’s because of timely evacuation; If we could do Asian Athletic Championship in 90 days; If we could bring 30 lakh more women into the Mission Shakti fold; If we could roll out KALIA – a game changing initiative nationally applauded in 15 days and Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana in 30 days.”

Today we have approved in-principle the manifesto as priority of the Government. “365 days from now – On 29th, May 2020, we present before the people our achievements vis-a-vis promises,” the CM told reporters.

“I know some of the promises take time. I want the Council of Ministers to put their best efforts in this regard.”

Urging his newly-appointed ministerial colleagues to emphasize on eradication of poverty in the state, Naveen said: “I want all of us to focus on transformation towards a New Odisha – An empowered Odisha – where poverty will be a thing of the past.”

The 72-year-old BJD Chief has become one of the longest-serving chief ministers of the coastal state.

Twenty ministers including 11 cabinet ministers and nine ministers of state were also administered the oath of office and secrecy.

The Biju Janata Dal, which secured 112 seats in the 147-member Odisha Assembly in the recently-concluded election, held along with Lok Sabha polls, has been in power in the state since 2000.
