Anganwadi workers condemn govt apathy

Hundresd of Anganwadi workers and helpers on Saturday staged a massive protest rally in front of the state assembly to mark the launching of the fifth national convention of the All India Anganwadi Workers’ Federation and to register their resentment against the apathetic attitude of the Central and state governments  towards their genuine demands and issues.

Anganwadi workers and helpers from across the state took part in the huge rally organised under the banner of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC).

The anganwadi workers have been demanding a minimum salary of Rs 10,000 per month, provident fund or ESI and setting up of grievance cells for them in all districts, pension, promotion and social security, besides other facilities,.

Speaking on the occasion, the president of the All Odisha Anganwadi Workers’ Federation Dutikrushna Panda said the Union government had rejected the proposal for the provision of minimum wage and social security to the Anganwadi and Asha workers during the Indian Labour Meet held in May this year. ” This is highly deplorable”, he said.
