Another arrested from Odisha in explosives seizure case

Balasore: The Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal police today arrested another person from Odisha in connection with the seizure of huge cache of explosives from a truck.

Sukant Sahu, the accused, was arrested from Basta in Balasore district on charges of illegally transporting the explosives, reports said. Earlier, the STF had apprehended driver and helper of the truck– Indrajit Bhui (25) and Padmalochan Dey (31), both residents of Basta area.

Later, based on information provided by the duo, Sheikh Rabiul (40), who was going to receive the entire consignment at Barasat in West Bengal, was arrested.

Notably, a truck loaded with 1,000 kg of explosive substances (potassium nitrate) stored in 27 gunny bags was intercepted by the STF at Tala Bridge in Chitpur area of Kolkata on March 9. The vehicle was coming from Odisha and heading towards North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.

Owner of the vehicle, Tapan Kumar Mahapatra of Rupsa in Balasore district, had filed a complaint at the local police station stating that his truck was missing.
