Another builder arrested for fraud in Odisha capital

Commissionerate Police today arrested a city-based builder for fraudulently collecting Rs 1 crore from gullible customers as advance money after promising them plots and houses in the Odisha capital.

Police arrested managing director of Ganapati Eastcon Pvt Ltd identified as Chinmay Das. The company with its headquarters in the Sahid Nagar area here, had cheated a number of persons, police said.

As many as eight cases of fraud have been registered with the Saheed Nagar police against the company, police added.

“The firm had taken Rs 21 lakh as advance from me to provide a plot in Mancheswar area three years ago. When  Das failed to provide the plot, we asked him to return the money. But the builder kept delaying it,” said Kumar Nayak, a victim.

“After repeated requests, I failed to get my deal fulfilled from the builder. So, I lodged a complaint with the local police and he returned some of the amount in phases. But he is yet to return all the money,” said the complainant added.

“Investigation is in progress to ascertain the criminal antecedents, if any, of the accused and his bank accounts and deposits,” Police said.
