Hindol, Jan 8:

The Hindol police in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Wednesday interrogated the director of a chit fund company on the charge of swindling around Rs 10 crore from the people.

It may be mentioned that the Hindol police had arrested Saroj Singh, field officer of Sedil India Multiservises Ptv Ltd, on November 11 last year following a complaint by Achyut Muduli of Saradhapur village and Abhiram Sethi of Alusing village under Hindol police station limits.

The duo, in the complaint, had told the police that Singh had swindled over lakhs from them.

The police brought Singh on a one-day remand on Wednesday.

During interrogation, Singh said the company, with its head office at Naharkanta near Hansapal on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, had opened more than 50 branches at Gudiakateni, Parjang, Rasol and other areas of Dhenkanal district and collected over Rs 10 crore from the people from 2008 to 2014 through him.

He also said that the collected money was later taken by the company’s director Dilip Kumar Rout of Patala village under Motanga police station limits who owns about 5 acres of land in Kantapala and Joranda area of the district.

Acting on the statement of Singh, OIC of Hindol police station Dasarathi Nath later detained Dilip for interrogation.

Police, in the meanwhile, have seized incriminating documents of the company from its Rasol branch.
