Another farmer ends life over debt burden in Odisha

Farmer suicide continues unabated in Odisha as another farmer allegedly ended his life by consuming poison last night over loan burden.

The deceased was identified as Paramananda Palei (55) of Gurudhi village under Purunakote police limits in Angul district.
According to reports, Palei had taken a loan of around Rs 2.5 lakh for the purpose of vegetable farming.
However, he was under stress to repay the loan following distress sale of vegetables due to which he took the extreme step after losing mental balance, son of the deceased alleged.
“The local BDO and Tehsildar have been asked to probe into the allegation. Everything will be clear after submission of the probe report,” said Angul ADMO.
