Another Gharial dies in Odisha’s Nandankanan

One more Gharial crocodile died at the Nandankanan zoo near Barang on the outskirts of Odisha capital on Thursday taking the death toll to 17 in the last five months.

According to zoo officials, the male crocodile, aged about 40, had stopped eating properly.

The body of the crocodile, found floating upside down in the evening, was later taken for post mortem.

With this, the number of Gharials has come down 88 from 105 in the zoo.

The zoo authorities , as per the suggestions of the vets, had earlier cleaned the water from the tank to prevent the unusual death of the Gharials.

One Gharial had died in the zoo three days ago.
