Sources said a class-IX girl staying in the hostel of an upgraded government high school at Pedakonda village under Jharapali panchayat, about 30 km from the district headquarters, has been found to be in the sixth month of her pregnancy.

It is alleged that the school authorities, who were aware of the incident for the last two months, chose to inform the District Education Officer (DEO) and the Block Education Officer (BEO) about it recently. But none of them did anythigng about it.

The matter came to light during the physical test of the girls at the hostel by the district school authorities on Friday.

In the wake of the minor motherhood incident in Koraput, the state government has made regular health check up of girls mandatory in all residential schools.

Meanwhile, a team of Malkangiri police today visited the victim’s native village Kacheli today.

Police, during preliminary investigation, came to know about the relationship of the minor girl with a Plus Two student of the same village and later took him to an unknown destination for interrogation.

Besides, police are also interrogating Manas Jena, DEO; Prasant Kumar Panda, headmaster of the school and Binod Singh, BEO.

Police, however, have refused to give details to the media about the victim and the accused since they are minors, sources added.
