Another sex racket busted in Odisha’s capital city

Bhubaneswar, June 4:

The Commissionerate Police in Odisha today busted yet another sex racket in the state capital and arrested six person while rexcuing six women engaged in the flesh trade.

Police sources said the Laxmisagar Police under the direct supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Akshya Kumar Mishra raided a two storied building in Chintamaniswara area and arrested 6 persons including the house owner for their alleged involvement in the racket.

During the raid police rescued 6 young women from the place.

Among those arrested are two brothers Panchanan Padhi and Siba Prasad Padhi from Gosani Nuagaon in Brahmapur, who were allegedly running the sex racket since last 6 months in the ground floor of the building.

Three other accused ‘customers’ have been identified as Dinesh Sharma, Safik Sekh (both from Bihar) and Saroj Kumar Patra who were caught red handed during the raid.

The owner of the house Hiralal Shah, who is also from Bihar, was also arrested for collaborating with the sex racket operators by offering them his house on rent. However, Shah pleaded not guilty and said he did not have any idea about what was going on in his house after it was rented out to the Padhi brothers.

“I had given a part of my house on rent to Siba Prasad Padhi 6 months ago but I did not know he was using it for flesh trade,” Shah told reporters.

ACP Mishra, who led the raid, said all the women rescued from the ‘brothel’ are from West Bengal and aged between 21 and 23 years.

The six accused will be forwarded to the court on Thursday while the rescued girls will be sent to a short-stay home in the city, he added.

The Commissionerate Police had busted a sex racket on May 29 after conducting raids on three beauty parlours near Kalpana square in the city.During raid the police had rescued 11 girls and arrested four men from the parlours .
Again on May 31, the police had busted another sex racket and arrested one person and rescued three girls from a place in Station Bazaar Square under Laxmisagar police limits.
