Anti-Maoist op to be intensified in Odisha, says DGP Marik

Odisha DGP Sanjeev Marik today described the arrest of  Odisha Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda as ‘the end of a chapter in the Naxal history’.

Sanjeev MarikBriefing newsmen here, Marik said now the Odisha police will launch operations to flush out Maoists who have infiltrated into the state’s north and western districts from  Jharkhand and Chhatisgarh respectively

Marik told newsmen that destruction of a Maoist camp in Deogarh district by the security forces following an exchange of fire was the result of the police’s focused efforts in this regard.

While mentioning that Maoist activities had come down drastically in Narayanpatna area in Koraput district, the DGP admitted that the red rebels from Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand side were active in  Sambalpur, Deogarh and Subarnapur districts.

Stating that anti Maoist operations will be intensified in the state, Marik said the police will be keeping a close watch on Maoists and the activities of their overground supporters.

“You will see the results of the police efforts very soon, ” the DGP said.
