The Regional Transport Office (RTO) staff detained the vehicle near Dhenkanal College by-pass road, in which the popular devotional and ghazal singer was travelling, for checking.

During verification of documents, the officials came to know that the driver wasn’t in possession of his driving license following which a penalty of Rs 300 was imposed on him.

Notably, Jalota was on his way to Bhubaneswar to board a flight after performing at a corporate programme here yesterday.

Unaware of the fact that Padmashri Anup Jalota was seated inside the company-provided vehicle, the ignorant officials reportedly detained the vehicle for some time. When they came to know about the singer, they didn’t let the opportunity go to pose for photographs with the celebrity.

“Law is equal for all. The vehicle had all documents except the driver not having the license. We fine him and let them go,” Dhenkanal Sub Collector Yudhisthir Nayak said.
