AP to raise dam height in Jhanjabati  river affecting 20 Odisha villages

Koraput, April 4: 

Andhra Pradesh is soon going to start work on increasing the height of dam on Jhanjabati  river which will severely affect nearly 20 Odisha villages in Koraput district.

Very soon AP is going to implement its Rs 400 crore blueprint for the raising the dam height to irrigate around 20,000 hectares in its Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts.

While the Odisha state government is still unaware of the serious development.

To build a dam on the Jhanjabati river AP government had MOU with Koraput district administration 25 years-ago.  The dam was build in 2006 and inaugurated by Rajasekhar Reddy.

Slow desiltation of sand has lead to limited water flow. After the sand dredging in Puthuria region failed, AP government has decided to raise the dam height.

Around 20 villages in  Bandhugan block, Narayanpatana in Koraput district will submerge due to the raise in the dam, according  Sambad.
