The city Mahila police today arrested an Indian Army officer on charges of torturing his wife for her family's failure to meet his demand for more dowry.
According to Mahila police, Lieutenant Colonel Pradip Kumar Kar serving in Indian Army in Punjab has been staying with his wife Monalisa Kar, a six-year daughter and a four-year old son at the Housing Board Colony in Baramunda here for the last 10 years.
Acting on a complaint report of dowry harassment filed by Monalisa at the Mahila police station on Sunday night, the Army officer was forwarded to a local court today following his arrest by the Mahila police.
The accused has been booked under sections 498 (A) and 34 of the IPC.
In her complaint report, Monalisa had stated that her husband has been physically assaulting her for quite some time for failing to meet his demand for more dowry. But on Sunday night he crossed all limits by throwing her out of the house.
