Bhubaneswar: Chilika MLA Prasanta Jagdev, who was arrested for allegedly plowing his SUV into crowd, has been hospitalised.
According to reports, the legislator complained of illness at the Banapur Sub-Jail last night, following which the prison authorities shifted him to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar for treatment.
Till last reports came in, his treatment was underway and he was yet to be discharged from the hospital.
Jagadev was arrested on March 22 for allegedly ramming his SUV into a gathering outside the Banapur block office, leaving 22 persons, including police personnel, injured on March 12. The crowd was present in front of the block office due to election to the Panchayat Samiti Chairperson post.
Following the incident, the irate mob thrashed the MLA and ransacked his vehicle. Jagadev sustained critical injuries in the attack and was admitted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.
After his discharge from the healthcare facility, Jagadev was arrested. He was produced before the Court of JMFC, Banapur and remanded to judicial custody at the Banapur Sub-Jail.
Earlier, Jagadev was suspended from ruling BJD party for allegedly thrashing a BJP leader.
