Artistic stone carvings not replaced at Odisha’s Konark temple: ASI

Puri: An official of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) today cleared the air on the alleged replacement of artistic stone carvings at the Sun Temple in Odisha’s Konark with plain stones.

ASI Superintending Archaeologist Arun Mallick said that not a single stone carving of the Sun Temple has been replaced in the last 15 years. The plain stones have only been placed at blank portions of the temple, he said.

The official further added that the plain stones were placed for conservation of the monument as per the guidelines of the ASI and UNESCO.

Commenting on the removal of Dashavatar statues from the Singhadwara of the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, Mallick said the statues have been removed by the ASI for temple repairing and kept safely. Those will be restored at respective places after repair work, he added.
