Assault on tribal women by Chitrakonda SDPO: Victims move courts

Malkangiri: Chitrakonda SDPO Anshuman Dwivedi, who is accused of assaulting four tribal women during a raid in Malkangiri district, landed in trouble as the victims moved locals courts seeking action against senior police official.

The complaints cases were registered separately by four tribal women victims under section 200 of CrPC at the District & Sessions Judge Court and SDJM Court in Malkangiri district.

The cases were filed under Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act at the Court of District & Sessions Judge and under sections 506, 323 and 354 of IPC at the SDJM Court, informed Malkangiri District Congress Committee President and Advocate Govind Chandra Patra.

On June 7 night, Chitrakonda SDPO Anshuman Dwivedi had allegedly assaulted four tribal women during a raid in connection with ganja seizure in Chitrakonda area. The victims had sustained injuries and were hospitalised.

The members of opposition parties Congress and BJP raised the issue in the House during zero hour of Monsoon Session of State Legislative Assembly yesterday demanding a high-level investigation into the incident and action against ‘erring’ SDPO.

In response, Minister of State (Home) Tusharkanti Behera informed the House that the case has been handed over to the State Crime Branch for proper investigation into the incident.

Earlier, Congress leader Govind Patra had lodged a complaint in this regard with the Malkangiri SP on June 13.
