ATE reserves ruling on delicensing of 3 Odisha discoms

The hearing on the appeal by Reliance Infra against Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC)’s March 4 order revoking the licenses of the three electricity distribution companies (discoms) – WESCO, NESCO and SOUTHCO – owned by it at the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (ATE) remained incomplete today.

The next date of hearing in the matter has been fixed for Monday by the ATE.

The ATE is likely to give a verdict on an interim arrangement the same day. Senior lawyer Kapil Sibal represented WESCO at the ATE.

Reliance Infra had moved the ATE against the OERC order after it revoked the licenses of the three discoms on the grounds of ‘unsatisfactory performance.’

“The bench asked us to file our counter on the submission made by Reliance. After a brief hearing, the bench will give its judgment on an interim arrangement. Reliance has prayed for keeping operation with them. The Commission’s order has been for vesting and operation. Our arguments are for operations,” said Priyabrata Patnaik, director OERC.
