Attack on Bahinipati kin; Minister Rabi Nanda’s son arrested ?

Bhubaneswar/ Jeypore, Apr 27:

The Jeypore police on Saturday subjected Bunty Nanda, son of Odisha’s Mass Education minister Rabi Nanda, to intensive 4-hour long interrogation at the Capital police station here in connection with the murderous assault on the brother, nephew and son of former MLA and senior Congress leader Taraprasad Bahinipati inside a Jeypore hotel hours after the first phase polls got over on April 10.

Bunty was picked up from the minister’s official residence here with the help of the Commissionerate Police, sources said.

There is no clarity, however, on whether the minister’s son has been taken into custody police following the interrogation. The sources in the Commissionerate Police said they had no information in the matter. There are strong rumours in Jeypore nevertheless that Bunty had indeed been arrested.

Bunty Nanda and his minister father are among the nine members of the Biju Janata Dal named in the FIR filed by Taraprasad Bahinipati after the incident.

Earlier this week, Bahinipati along with senior Congress leaders Narasingha Mishra and Kishore Patel had met with the DGP Prakash Mishra to demand the immediate arrest of the culprits who were clearly identified in the CCTV footage of the hotel as well as those who masterminded the attack.

Bahinipati had also threatened to gherao chief minister’s residence if the police failed to apprehend the attackers.

It may be noted here that the Koraput police have failed to nab any of the identified accused persons in the last 16 days.
