Attack on med specialist at Odisha hosp: Docs call off cease-work agitation

Doctors of Balasore district headquarters hospital in Odisha today withdrew cease-work agitation which they had called this morning protesting the attack on medicine specialist Dr Bharat Samal by kin of a patient yesterday.

The doctors called off the agitation after getting assurance on security from the district Collector.

Notably, one Krishna De, hailing from Balgopalpur here, was admitted to the hospital yesterday after he complained of chest pain. However, it was decided to shift the patient to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after his health condition deteriorated.

Dr Samal examined the patient in the ambulance before being shifted to Cuttack and declared him dead. Claiming that negligence in treatment led to the death, a family member of the patient allegedly hit the doctor with an iron rod at his head.

The doctor sustained grievous head injuries in the attack and was admitted to ICU.

Police have started investigation into the incident after detaining the father of the deceased. On the other hand, a police complaint has been lodged by the family members of Krishna De alleging that he died due to negligence in treatment.
