Attack on Odisha Congress chief: 500 party supporters gherao SDPO office

Anandpur: Demanding action against the culprits who attacked Odisha Congress chief Niranjan Patnaik, over 500 Congress leaders and supporters launched a protest, here today.

Political leaders and party workers gheraoed the office of Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) under the leadership of Keonjhar District Congress Working President Ratikant Baral.

According to reports, the protest party wanted to submit a memorandum to the SDPO. However, the office was locked and his unavailability led to the protesters gheraoing the office.

Earlier today, Ramachandrapur police today arrested eight persons for their alleged involvement in the attack on Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee President Niranjan Patnaik last evening.

Patnaik was injured after his vehicle was attacked by some miscreants during an election rally at Bhandaripoda Chaak under Ghasipura Assembly constituency, from where he is contesting in the ongoing polls.

Apart from Patnaik, five to seven Congress workers were also injured in the attack.
