Attack on poll candidates in Odisha capital: Security for nominees tightened

Bhubaneswar: A day after two poll candidates were attacked in Odisha capital, the Twin City Commissionerate Police today decided to tighten the security for the two nominees.

BJD’s Bhubaneswar (Central) MLA candidate Ananta Narayan Jena and Jagannath Pradhan, BJP’s nominee for the same constituency, who were attacked here last evening, will be provided with ‘escort vehicles’ by the police.

“Investigation into the incident is underway and we have taken the matter seriously. Security has been tightened for those poll candidates who were attacked. They were earlier provided with Personal Security Officers (PSOs). Now, they will be given ‘escort vehicles’ for better security,” said Satyajit Mohanty, Twin City Police Commissioner.

Bombs were yesterday hurled at the car of Jena when he was passing through Jharpada. He was the admitted to the Capital Hospital here for treatment.
