Auto driver whisking away minor girl arrested in Odisha capital

Commissionerate Police today arrested an auto rickshaw driver of Nayagarh district in Odisha for cheating a minor girl by taking her to a wrong destination with evil intention.

Sensing trouble, the girl had later jumped from the auto to escape being harmed. She was rescued by locals and rushed to Jatni hospital for treatment.

Inspector in charge (IIC) of Jatni police station Ranjit Prusty said the auto driver Sushanta Palai has been arresteed for cheating the minor.

The IIC said the minor girl, who had come to the Centurion University of Technology located on the outskirts of the city this morning from Jajpur for admission into vocational courses, was not allowed to take admission by the university authorities as she did not meet the age qualification.

The girl then search for an auto rickshaw to reach Barmunda bus stand and hired Sushanta. But instead of taking her to Baraminda, Susanta took her towards Mendhasala in Tamando area with evil intention, Prusty said. Realising what the auto driver was up to, the girl jumped from the auto to save herself, he added.

“After investigation, we nabbed the auto driver and interrogation is on,” said the officer.
