Police have also registered a case of unnatural death in this connection.

“They have refused to take the dead baby girl’s body claiming that it was not their child. We have preserved the body and post-mortem will be conducted on it. Keeping with their demand DNA test will be conducted. We currently do not have FD cards for the DNA test. We will get them from Bhubaneswar and tomorrow and DNA samples will be taken,” said Tofan Bag, IIC Burla police station.

Despite verification of admission records of both the baby girls and blood grouping reports before and after death, the complainant couple was rigid that the baby girl in bed number 17 was their child. The couple is not prepared to accept that the dead baby girl was theirs and demanded a DNA test.

It may be mentioned here that Gagan Bihari Patra of Naktideula area in Sambalpur district had brought his baby daughter to VIMSAR on Saturday at 11 AM for treatment. The child died while undergoing treatment at 9 PM on the same day. However, Gagan said it was not his child. He alleged that his child had been swapped. He claimed that the child in bed number 17 of the SNCU was his child.

On the other hand, the parents of the child undergoing treatment on bed number 17 claimed that it was their child. Following the incident, late on Saturday night Burla SDPO and Burla IIC visited the hospital to inquire into the incident.
