Bhubaneswar, April 19:
Senior Odisha Congress leader and the party’s Jeypore candidate Taraprasad Banipati today said people of Jeypore would resort to a gherao of Naveen Niwas, the residence of chief minister Naveen Patnaik, if the government fails to arrest the accused involved in attack of his family members within three days.
“Apprehending that he may be defeated in the elections, the School and Mass Education minister Rabinarayan Nanda had instructed his son Pintu Nanda and some antisocial elements to terrorise me and finish my political career by attacking my family members. Although we have registered an FIR in the police station, the accused are moving freely. If the police administration failed to arrest the culprits within three days, we would gherao Naveen Niwas,” warned Bahinipati at a press conference here.
The senior leader alleged that Nanda’s henchmen were trying to eliminate his family members including his son, nephews and younger brother after knowing that Nanda’s defeat is inevitable in the elections.
“The chief minister always talks of law taking its own course but now, the law is taking the course dictated by Naveen Patnaik. Even though the attack on my family members has been recorded by CCTV camera, the Home department, which is under him, has failed to arrest the culprits, for reasons not difficult to guess,” said Bahinipati.
