Balangir cash seizure: Police team under scanner after raiding lodge

Balangir: Following allegation of embezzlement of cash seized during raid at Kantabanji area, Balangir SP today grilled all police personnel, who were part of the team that had conducted raid on the lodge this Thursday.

Taking up the matter seriously, Balangir SP Nitin Kusalkar directed SDPO Hrushikesh Meher not to be part of the investigation related to cash seizure.

According to reports, Balangir police had seized Rs 80 lakh cash from a lodge in Kantabanji area on September 15 night and detained seven persons in this connection.

However, Kantabanji SDPO Hrushikesh Meher briefed the press that the team had seized cash amounting to Rs 58,52,250, projecting seven detainees as gamblers. It was alleged that the team had hidden Rs 13 lakh during the raid on the lodge.

Following allegation, Balangir SP had ordered a probe into the matter. As per the order, Additional SP Suresh Nayak counted the cash again in presence of the magistrate. During investigation, one more bag containing Rs 13 lakh cash was found from the police station.

Sources said that persons, who were detained in connection with cash seizure from the lodge, were the owners of different brick kilns in Telangana.

“Like every year, they had visited Balangir to hire labourers from here for their brick kilns in Telangana. They stayed at the Annapurna lodge, said the lodge manager.
