Baliguda truck mishap: 2-year-old boy succumbs, toll rises to 11

Phulbani: The number of deaths in the mini-truck mishap in Baliguda of Kandhamal district increased to 11 with a two-year-old boy succumbing to his injuries while undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur today.

The deceased has been identified as Akbar Badset, whose mother Surekha is also undergoing treatment in surgery ward of the hospital.

Meanwhile it is alleged that the two-year-old kid died due to medical negligence at the hospital.

Worth mentioning, 10 persons, including four women and four kids, died while 32 sustained injuries after a truck carrying around 50 persons plunged into a gorge at Poiguda Ghat near Baliguda in Kandhamal district on January 22.

After the incident, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for family members of deceased. He had also directed officials concerned to provide free treatment to the injured persons.
