Bandh in Odisha’s Kalahandi over permanent HC bench demand

Bhawanipatna: The Central Action Committee (CAC) and District Bar Association are observing a 12-hour bandh in Kalahandi today demanding establishment of a permanent bench of the Orissa High Court.

While shops and business establishments remained closed, movement of heavy vehicles came to a grinding halt due to the bandh.

The agitators resorted to picketing at various places and blocked Borigumma-Bargarh main road this morning.

Several political parties and local organisations have extended their support to the bandh call.

On the other hand, agitating lawyers have decided to start a 3-day-long economic blockade in the four districts– Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Deogarh– over demand for the establishment of a permanent High Court Bench in western Odisha.
