Banglar Rasogolla row: WB seeks time to keep side
Bhubaneswar: The West Bengal government has sought more time to keep its side before the Chennai-based Geographical Indication (GI) Registry in connection with a petition that was filed demanding rectification/removal of GI tag to Banglar Rasogolla.
The GI Registry had issued notice to West Bengal State Food Processing and Horticulture Development Corporation, Patent Information Centre of West Bengal department of Higher Education, Science and Technology and the West Bengal Council of Science and Technology to appear before it on September 6 for hearing.
The petition was filed by Chairman of Regional Development Trust, Bhubaneswar, Ramesh Chandra Sahoo.
Worth mentioning, the GI Registry had recently granted the much-awaited status to ‘Odisha Rasagola’, reaffirming Odisha’s claim that the sweetmeat existed since 15th -16th century as it has been mentioned in the ‘Dandi Ramayana’.
While majority dubbed it as a sweet end to the long-drawn battle between the two states, the petition challenging the GI status to Banglar Rasogolla is all set to put the neighbouring state on a sticky wicket.
