Bhubaneswar, Sep 8:

Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) today began its investigation into allegations of illegal construction in the Trahi Achyuta Ashram set up by arrested godman Sura Baba at Jhiinti Shasan near the Odisha capital.

Even though the Ashram comes under BDA limits, approval was not taken from it before the construction was taken up, BDA sources said

“Jhinti Shasan came under BDA purview in 2011. We have been receiving reports that the constructions were done in the Ashram premises without seeking BDA approval. We began our investigation into it today. If we find the constructions have been done without BDA approval, we would initiate a case against it under provisions of ODA act. Action would be taken based on the court order after the case is disposed of,” said BDA Secretary Ranjan Dash.

On the other hand, the district administration today started work to free the illegal encroachment of government land and bring it back to government possession. The administration had earlier sent a notice to the Ashram authorities to vacate the encroached land.

Even though a lawyer representing the Ashram had sought seven days’ time to submit the reply from the Ashram authorities, no reply was submitted at the end of the notice period. This prompted the administration to take action to free the land.

Three Revenue Inspectors (RIs), four Amins and a supervisor are measuring the Ashram property today under the supervision of Tehsildar of Balianta.

As per sources, the Baba had encroached about 500 decimals of land from three plots to build his Ashram and other facilities.
