Bears enter Koraput town in Odisha, create panic

Panic gripped Koraput town in Odisha today after two bears were spotted running helter-skelter here last night.

According to reports, two bears from nearby Banabharati forest have strayed into the district headquarters town on Wednesday night.

The locals spotted the two bears this morning near bus stand area and in no time the news spread in the township like a wildfire forcing them to stay indoors.

The forest department has launched a hunt to capture the wild animals. A cage has been requisitioned from Malkangiri, besides a tranquilizing team from Berhampur has also been asked to join the operation.

“We have already driven out one bear into the jungle and trying to trap another which is hiding inside the PWD office premises,” said a forest official engaged in the operation.

After the joint efforts of the officials, the elusive bear was captured with the help of a trap this evening bringing much respite to the denizens here.
