Bhubaneswar: In a fresh revelation in the sensational murder in Bhimatangi area, the accused had reportedly forced the woman for marriage before killing her.

Accused Jagannath Pradhan, who was undergoing treatment at the AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, has been discharged. He confessed to crime during interrogation. He said that he had forced her for marriage before murder at her residence,” revealed Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash today.

Addressing a presser today, Dash narrated the murder plan that the accused executed on the fateful day on July 5 at the woman’s residence at Bhimatangi area in Bhubaneswar.

He said that Jagannath Pradhan had plotted the murder conspiracy and the suicidal note recovered from him had been written 4 days before the murder.

“Accused Jagannath Pradhan had entered into the house Bhimatangi area with two knives, poison, a vermillion container, chocolates and beverages at around 9.00 AM on that day after Priyanka’s husband left for office. The woman and her little son were inside the house. He started speaking to woman in a usual manner and proposed her for marriage. He asked her to flee with him leaving her husband. The conversation later turned into argument and during the period, the house owner knocked at the door with some food item (dahibara) for which he hid inside the washroom. The house owner offered the woman the food item and took the son to the top floor of the house. Taking advantage of the situation, the spurned lover came outside the bathroom and again pressurised her for marriage. As per the plan, he slit her throat with a knife after she rejected his proposal. Later, he attempted suicide by consuming the poison. Before it, he made a video call to Priyanka’s husband,” Dash told media reporters.

Jagannath allegedly murdered Priyanka by slitting her throat and later tried to end his life by cutting his wrist at her house, in the absence of her husband Rakesh Sahoo. The accused was rescued by police and admitted to the Capital Hospital for treatment.

Rakesh and Priyanka had got married in 2014 and the couple has a three-year-old son. The duo was staying in a rented house in Bhimatangi Housing Board Colony in the city.
